A Small Chapter Does Big Things

Members of Sigma Kappa at Eastern Michigan University held their 5th annual pancake dinner at the Cross and Resurrection Lutheran Church to raise money for Alzheimer’s disease research. Due to the help and support of current sisters and alumnae, Delta Alpha was able to provide an all you can eat buffet of pancakes, hash browns, and sausage for family, friends, fellow Greeks, and Eastern Eagles. With the largest turnout thus far, we raised and donated over $1,500 to the Sigma Kappa Foundation. Vice President of Philanthropic Service Jordan Riley expressed, “The work and stress was all worth it because everyone enjoyed themselves, and I couldn't have been happier with the event”!

Additionally, Sigma Kappa Delta Alpha hosted a new event, Career Day, in the winter for all of Eastern Michigan University’s Greek Life! All campus Greek organizations were contacted by Vice President of Scholarship Kennedy Smith, and encouraged to apply to attend and hear from professionals in 27 different career paths they may be interested in, such as nursing, social work, international business, video and media production, and non-profit business. Sigma Kappa alumnae and other Eastern alumni within the professional fields volunteered their time to educate us about their career experience, applying to graduate programs, and all other important information pertaining to their area of expertise. The event was a success, and Kennedy’s dedication to helping sisters and all members of Greek life resulted in a positive letter being written to Standards council and read aloud during formal meeting. Her tenacity has inspired many of our sisters to make positive changes within their academic work, chapter participation, and formal leadership positions.
