♥ February's topic: body positivity ♥

Did you know?

-According to one study, more than half of women between the ages of 18-25 would rather be run over by a truck than be "fat"

-58% of college girls feel pressured to be a certain weight

Why is body positivity important?

Body positivity is very important because poor body image can lead to diminished mental performance, anxiety, depression and especially eating disorders. This is why it is important that we learn to love our bodies and to always feel comfortable in them.

Our chapter Sigma Kappa Delta Alpha is a "body snark free zone". We believe that loving yourself is the greatest revolution.

"Body confidence does not come from trying to achieve the 'perfect body', it comes from  embracing the one you've already got"

5 Steps to Positive Body Image

1. Keep a top 10 list of things you love about yourself-things that aren't related to how much you weigh or what you like look. Read your list frequently and add to it whenever you become mindful of the things you do like about yourself.

2. Surround yourself with positive people. It is easier to love yourself when you are around people who are supportive and who accept you for the person you are.

3. Wear clothes that make you feel good about your body and that you feel comfortable in. Work with your body, not against it!

4. Do something nice for yourself- something that shows your body that you appreciate it. Take a bubble bath or go read a book at your favorite place.

5. When you think of yourself, think of yourself as a whole. Do not just focus on your body, focus on all aspects of yourself. See yourself as you would want others to see you-as a whole person.
